eToro Knowledge Assessment 2026
Pass the Appropriateness Test — The Ethical, Reliable Way
The Truth: "Answer Keys" Won't Save You in 2026
If you're trying to pass eToro's knowledge checks by memorising old answers, you're playing the hardest mode. Question banks change, retakes rotate questions, and many regions apply stricter rules. The winning approach: learn the small set of concepts the test is designed to detect.
In many regions, eToro offers access to complex, higher-risk products (especially CFDs and leveraged trading, and sometimes CopyTrading features). Regulators require brokers to check whether these products are appropriate for your knowledge and experience—and in some cases whether they're suitable for your goals and financial situation.
⚠️ Important: Don't try to game the assessment. Answering honestly protects you. If you don't understand a concept, treat that as a signal to learn it before trading.
Product Identity
Do you know what you're trading (CFD vs owning the asset)?
Leverage + Margin Mechanics
Can you compute exposure and understand magnified losses?
Liquidation Risk
Do you understand margin calls and forced close-outs?
Execution Reality
Do you understand slippage, gaps, and why stop-loss is not a guarantee?
Client Protections
Do you understand retail vs professional protections and risk responsibility?
✅ Master these, and you're basically "exam-proof"
The Top 6 Failure Triggers:
Confusing margin with position size (notional exposure)
Believing leverage only changes deposit risk (it changes P/L on full exposure)
Not knowing what triggers forced liquidation
Thinking stop-loss always works exactly at the level
Treating CopyTrading as "someone else is responsible"
Misunderstanding professional client trade-offs
The Fix
Use the mini-lessons and practice questions in this guide. Most people can move from "fail risk" to "pass ready" in under an hour of targeted study.
CFD vs Owning the Asset
A CFD is a contract where your profit/loss is based on price movement without owning the underlying asset.
Notional Exposure
The full market exposure of your trade - what your profit/loss is based on.
Margin
The collateral required to open the position. Not your total exposure.
Leverage
The multiplier that increases exposure relative to margin. Magnifies both gains and losses.
Long vs Short
Long = profit if price rises. Short = profit if price falls. CFDs allow both.
Margin Call / Liquidation
If losses reduce equity, positions can be closed automatically to limit risk.
Stop-Loss Reality
Stop-loss orders reduce risk but aren't guaranteed - execution can slip in fast markets.
Slippage and Gaps
Execution at different prices than requested, especially during volatility or market gaps.
Trading Costs
CFDs include spreads and may have overnight financing costs that add up over time.
CopyTrading Responsibility
CopyTrading doesn't transfer responsibility - you still carry the risk.
📘 Drill A
You post $250 margin at 5× leverage
Position size = $250 × 5 = $1,250
If the underlying moves -4% against you:
Loss ≈ 4% of $1,250 = $50 (ignoring costs)
📗 Drill B
You want $2,000 exposure at 10× leverage
Required margin = $2,000 ÷ 10 = $200
💡 Practice Tip: Do 5 versions of these with random numbers. If you can do them quickly, you'll answer many test questions correctly.
If you're short on time, do this:
Read the 12 concepts above twice, out loud
Do the leverage math drill until it feels automatic
Memorise the three execution truths: Losses are on full exposure, stop-loss isn't guaranteed, liquidation can happen fast
If you plan to CopyTrade: practise explaining why you're still responsible for risk
Don't panic. It usually means you need more clarity on leverage, margin, liquidation, and order execution.
- Re-study the 12 concepts above

💡 If a feature or product is restricted, treat that as a safety mechanism—not a challenge to bypass.

If your goal goes beyond "passing the quiz" and you want a platform built for systematic trading, consider brokers that offer MetaTrader 5 (MT5).
Why MT5?
- Widely used for algorithmic trading
- Supports Expert Advisors (EAs) and automation
- Strategy testing and backtesting capabilities
- Large ecosystem of tools and indicators
⚠️ Note: eToro is not an MT5 platform. If MT5 is a must-have, you'd be comparing different brokers.
